Mapping of an existing cemetery is an activity that is often neglected, but it is nonetheless a critical part of any cemetery's function.

Section mapping is offered to identify individual lots for records management and sales purposes.  Lots are numbered and then identified by location, ownership and any family information for the gravesite.

Section mapping is intended to portray a representation of existing burials and, hopefully, identify those areas that have yet to be used.  As cemeteries are buried, pockets of unused spaces are created.  Each successive generation expects there to be sufficient burial spaces available for their use.  This, of course, is not the case in many instances.  Mapping will help identify those potential problem areas and allow the cemetery to address any shortfall of space before it is needed.

Lot maps may be digitally produced from aerial photographs using a controlled survey network on the ground.  These maps show existing roads, trees, headstone and monument locations, and more accurately represent existing conditions than scanning methods.  It is our experience that it is ineffective to scan existing maps for inclusion into a database, as scanning only accomplishes placing inaccurate maps into a digital format.

We do not offer services directly related to records management.  However, we recommend that records management software be compatible with AutoCad or other engineering/surveying type software.  Otherwise, it will cost the cemetery many dollars and man-hours in duplication of tasks.
